If you’re a fan of the classic cinnamon roll, like me, get ready to take your love to a whole new level. Cinnamon roll bread combines the irresistible flavors and textures of a cinnamon roll with the convenience and sliceability of a loaf of bread. In this post, I’ll dive into the world of cinnamon roll bread, exploring its origin, benefits, and even a recipe to get you started on this delectable journey.
The Origin of Cinnamon Roll Bread
While the exact origin of cinnamon roll bread is a bit hazy, its inspiration undoubtedly comes from the beloved cinnamon roll, whose roots trace back to ancient times. Various cultures have their version of sweet, spiced bread, from the Swedish kanelbullar to the American cinnamon bun. The idea of shaping this deliciousness into a loaf probably emerged as bakers began experimenting with formats that offer both convenience and indulgence.
Why Choose Cinnamon Roll Bread Over Traditional Cinnamon Rolls?
- Convenience: Slicing a piece of cinnamon roll bread is quicker and less messy than peeling off a sticky roll.
- Flexiblity: You can enjoy a slice with butter or even use it for a bread pudding. The possibilities are endless!
- Aesthetic Appeal: The swirls in a loaf of cinnamon roll bread are not only mouthwatering but are also visually stunning, making it a great option for hosting.
How to Make Cinnamon Roll Bread
Tools Needed:
- 9 inch Loaf pan
- Mixing Bowls (Love having the non-slip bottoms on my bowls)
- KitchenAid hand mixer (this is my FAVORITE hand mixer)
- Spatulas
- Wire Rack
Ingredients:
- 1 cup white granulated sugar
- 2 cups King Arthur all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup oat milk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Top and Center Swirl:
- 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Glaze:
- 4 tablespoons plant-based butter (softened)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons oat milk
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 °F (175°C). Grease loaf pan or use parchment paper.
- Combine cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl and set aside (this is used for the top and center swirl).
- Whisk together sugar, flour, baking powder and salt in a medium sized bowl.
- Beat in egg, oat milk, and oil until just combined.
- Grab your loaf pan and pour half of the batter into the pan. Take half of the Top and Swirl mixture and sprinkle it on the batter, then swirl with a knife or toothpick.
- Pour the remaining mixture on top until the loaf pan is about 2/3 full. Top with the remaining cinnamon sugar and, again, swirl with a knife or toothpick.
- Bake for about 1 hour or until a toothpick entered into the center comes out clean. Place pan on cooling rack for 10 minutes before removing the loaf from pan.
- While the loaf is cooling completely, combine plant-based butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and oat milk in a medium sized bowl until desired consistency. Drizzle over cooled bread and enjoy!
